The selection of home furniture is done with great care so that the looks and ambience should elevate a property into a dream home. Furniture apart, a property also gets dressed up with items such as rugs, prints, mirrors, lighting, house wares and accessories. In terms of choosing furniture the real task is balancing the budget and quality.

Flat packed furniture

Ready to Assemble (RTA) furniture is an essential part of flat packs furniture claiming advantages like low price and ease of transport despite many disadvantages. Flat pack is gaining popularity with each passing day. Furniture stores are stacking up RTA flat packs in so many models and designs because there is a demand.

Advantages

• Flat pack furniture is cheap and ready-to-use. Despites for its lower durability everybody it does not make a home that dull.
• RTA furniture is easy to dismantle and transport. A tiny apartment dweller can pack all his flat pack furniture in a car or a mini-van and shift to another flat without any extra help.

• Highly customizable and can be painted in many colors
• Drilling and sowing to serve a completely different purpose is possible.

Disadvantages

Since the onus of putting together RTA movables is on the buyer the design is made very simple. This is because too many curves, bends, edges and odd shapes can confuse the consumer there and pose a hard time to put them together.

Flat Pack is fragile. Dismantling them a few times will make it lose its durability significantly. Its life is not as much as ready-to-use pieces on the market.

High Utility

Despite many disadvantages, several advantages outweigh all of them. You will not miss RTAs in London home furniture packages. They may break easily and low in quality, minimal in designs yet their functionality is great. They look better in a young professional’s home than a family’s solid antique furniture. So there is no reason to regret in buying RTA pieces.

Factors to Consider

Before purchasing flat packed furniture the main points to consider are:

• They are furniture of self assembly
• There is a job in putting them together rightly
• Tools will be needed to do this
• If you are not technically savvy you will end up making a mess

MDF Factor

Most of the self assembly furniture is in the form of MDF having a number of problems. MDF is cheap man-made wood made form into shapes such as boards for furniture etc. The problem is that if you fail in one joint, to do reassembly of the furniture it has to be dismantled again and again. It can cause problems. Its joints and connections are not as solid as normal wood and will wear much easier and go loose making the furniture to become unstable.

Shifting is Difficult

Moving the furniture is difficult. This is because MDF is not suited to being taken apart frequently. So the end result will be weak furniture that needs extra support and faster replacement.
